How does GM remain relevant in the age of Global Flexibility?

Thursday, 5th Dec. 11am to 5pm. Equinix, 11 Devonshire Square, London, EC2M 4YR

Writing in our research paper from earlier this year, Stephen Fogarty argues that the name ‘Global Mobility’ is dated. Our paper posited that Global Mobility and Talent Management were two sides of the same coin. Stephen, co-founder and executive researcher at Scalrr, disagreed.

“The reality is that the current landscape is changing fast, and GM teams need to adapt and expand their footprint to manage a larger piece of the talent management puzzle.”

“In today’s world,” Stephen said, “it’s more about FLEXIBILITY than MOBILITY.” The inexorable advance of technology, as well as a higher tolerance for remote, hybrid and asynchronous work already force us to be more flexible in our approach to Talent Management. With the world continuing to change at a rapid pace, GM’s evolution is far from over.

Our event, Vision 2030 - the end of Global Mobility - looks five years into the future to ask, how does GM remain relevant in the age of Global Flexibility?

Sharing perspectives

Hosted by Equinix, “the world’s digital infrastructure company,” we’ll meet in East London’s leafy Devonshire Square on Thursday, the 5th of December.

In the morning, you’ll hear from the RES Forum’s David Enser, about the measures and expectations of HR’s C-Suite. This session was well received during the recent RES Connect Singapore. One attendee shared that they liked “the format and the content of the entire afternoon’s discussion… no time was wasted, it just kept us going…”

David will return for an early afternoon workshop looking at potential scenarios for work in 2030. Created for our upcoming research paper, Vision 2030 - the future of Talent Mobility - these predictions follow multiple discussions with HR and GM leaders from all sides of the industry. We want to hear your thoughts and discuss how GM can adapt to meet these likely possibilities.

After an update on the Serviced Accommodation market, presented by Claire Vincent of SilverDoor, our attention will turn to the next generation of workers. Firstly, you’ll hear about how to drive positive outcomes through Early Career programmes.

We are also delighted to announce that Dr Zaheer Ahmad MBE, EDI Adviser to the Premier League and Senior Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Leader, BDO UK LLP has agreed to be our keynote speaker. Dr Zaheer will be exploring Social Mobility, Citizenship and Community and how we can help bridge the discrimination gap.

Next, Holly Asquith will talk about how Talent Beyond Boundaries helps refugees and other forcibly displaced people overcome the many hurdles they face when it comes to finding work. With real life case studies, this talk is bound to challenge your approach to sourcing and recruiting new talent. Then, you’ll get to meet the next generation and hear about their experiences and their expectations for life and work in 2030.

Joined by Issa Issa of Bright Centres, a London-based organisation who help young people access better opportunities, we’ll welcome a group of local 16- to 18-year-olds to discuss their vision for 2030. This promises to be an eye-opening conversation about the barriers and opportunities faced by young people as they consider what a career might look like in the age of Global Flexibility. You never know, you might even learn a thing or two about how GM can play a role in meeting those challenges and delivering the opportunities.

Registration is open to in-house HR and GM professionals looking to keep pace with the ever-changing, and always-challenging, world of international and cross-border work. If 2030 really is to be the end of Global Mobility, then it should be Global Mobility who leads the way into the new era.
